Grain Prices Have Made Farmers Smile

The Chairman of the Board of the Konya Commodity Exchange, Muhammet Uğur Kaleli, stated that the wheat and barley prices in the free market today are showing a positive trend for farmers. He mentioned that while producers in the Konya Plain were distressed by the decreasing yield, they were relieved by the prices that have formed. Kaleli said, "In the Konya Plain, the yield has decreased by about 30% due to drought, but thanks to the improved quality, wheat prices are now 40% above last year's TMO intervention price. The 2014 harvest wheat arriving at the Konya Commodity Exchange Electronic Sales Hall is currently being traded between 850 and 1,050 TRY per ton. The prices are above last year's levels."
